EXT-HDBT18G-70M: 4K60 HDBaseT Kit with Power over Cable

EXT-HDBT18G-70M EXT-HDBT18G-70M 18Gbps 4K60 HDMI over HDBaseT Extender Kit with PoC - 40m 4K / 70m 1080p Power Both Ends from One Adaptor - 4K60 4:4:4 10-bit HDR, HDCP 2.2, Bi-Directional IR & RS-232… Product page →

The EXT-HDBT18G-70M is a transmitter and receiver pair that carries 18Gbps HDMI 2.0b video, two-way IR and two-way RS-232 over a single CAT6 cable. One 24V/1A adaptor plugged into either unit powers both of them. It is built for integrators fitting out classrooms, meeting rooms, hospitality venues and residential media rooms that need one clean run to one display, without eARC, USB or Ethernet extension.

What does the EXT-HDBT18G-70M do?

The transmitter takes an HDMI source, such as a Blu-ray player, media player or PC, and converts it to standard HDBaseT. The receiver at the display converts it back to HDMI. The link is HDMI 2.0b at 18Gbps with HDCP 2.2 and HDCP 1.4, and the kit is also DVI compliant. Both units come in compact black metal enclosures, each 4.53 x 2.56 x 0.67 in (115 x 65 x 17 mm).

How far can it send 4K60?

4K2K@50/60Hz (YUV 4:4:4) and 4K2K@50/60Hz (YUV 4:2:0) both reach 131 ft (40m) over a single CAT6 cable with straight-through wiring. Both ends must be terminated to the same standard. Crossover cables are not supported: if the extender detects one, it goes into protection mode and no video reaches the display.

Why is Power over Cable useful on site?

One adaptor at either unit powers both, so you can put the adaptor wherever the outlet is, at the source or at the display. A ceiling projector or a display above a fireplace then needs no outlet of its own. The included adaptor takes AC 100-240V, 50/60Hz and outputs DC 24V/1A. Power over Cable consumption is less than 10W, and the kit's maximum power consumption is 24W.

Which signals reach the full 230 ft (70m)?

Only 1080p@60Hz 36-bit and 3D 1080p@30Hz 36-bit reach 230 ft (70m). If a run is longer than the 4K limit above, shorten the cable or set the source to one of these two signals.

Can I control the display and the source through the extender?

Yes. Control signals travel over the same cable as the video. IR runs in both directions on two independent channels: Channel 1 goes from RX to TX and Channel 2 from TX to RX. This means a handheld remote at the display can still operate the source, and the display's own remote works from the source end. RS-232 passes through in both directions on 3-pin Phoenix connectors (TX, GND, RX), so a control system at the rack can drive the display. The box includes two Wideband IR Tx (blaster) cables and two Wideband IR Rx (receiver) cables, so both IR directions work as delivered.

What HDR and audio formats does it pass?

The kit passes 10-bit HDR. HBR audio also passes through, including LPCM 2/5.1/7.1CH, Dolby Digital, DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. CEC is bypassed.

Does it need a network connection or IP setup?

No. Nothing on the kit touches the network, so there is no IP addressing to plan and no IT sign-off to wait for. The HDBaseT link runs point to point between the transmitter and the receiver.

How can I tell whether a fault is the cable or the source?

Both units have the same two indicator lamps. The Connection Signal lamp is steady for a good link, flashes for a poor link and is off when there is no link. The Data Signal lamp is steady for HDMI with HDCP, flashes for HDMI without HDCP and is off when there is no HDMI signal. Reading the two lamps together shows whether the cable run or the source is at fault.
