SP-HD1X44K 1x4 HDMI Splitter: 4K, HDR, EDID and Power

SP-HD1X44K SP-HD1X44K 4K 1×4 HDMI Splitter with HDR and EDID Management 10.2Gbps, HDCP 1.4, 4K@60Hz 4:2:0, Dolby Vision, STD/TV EDID Modes Product page →

The SP-HD1X44K is a 1x4 HDMI splitter. It sends one HDMI source to four displays at the same time, at up to 4K2K@50/60Hz 4:2:0 or 4K2K@30Hz 4:4:4, and passes HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It is built for jobs where one player, laptop or set-top box feeds several screens, including rooms that mix different displays. A switch on the panel sets the EDID to STD or TV mode, so the source settles on a resolution every connected screen can show.

What does the SP-HD1X44K do, and what signals does it carry?

It copies one HDMI input to four HDMI Type A outputs. Video bandwidth is 10.2Gbps. Supported resolutions are 4K2K@50/60Hz 4:2:0, 4K2K@30Hz 4:4:4, 1920x1200, 1080p, 1080i, 720p and 480p, plus all HDMI 3D formats. Colour space covers RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0, at 8/10/12-bit colour depth. Audio passes through with the video. That includes PCM 2.0/5.1/7.1CH, Dolby Digital/Plus/EX, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS High Res and DSD. No driver is needed: it is plug and play.

Does it support Dolby Vision and HDR?

Yes. The specification lists HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Each is passed to all four outputs. The splitter does not convert or tone-map HDR, so each display still has to support the HDR format the source sends.

Which HDCP version does it support?

HDCP 1.4 only. If the source sends content protected with HDCP 2.2, it may not pass through, and the displays can show an HDCP error. For HDCP 2.2 content, look at the SP-HD20-1X44K instead.

Can I force every output to 1080p?

Yes. Use the EDID switch on the panel, which has two modes:

  • STD tells the source to send 1080p@60Hz with 2-channel audio to all outputs. Choose this when the displays are unknown or change from job to job, because nearly any HDMI screen accepts 1080p@60Hz.
  • TV copies the EDID of the display on OUT 1 to all outputs, so every screen gets the same resolution. Connect the display you most want to drive at full resolution to OUT 1. Every display has to support the format that display asks for.

If one or more screens show no picture, the approved fix is: check the HDMI cables, set the switch to STD, then power-cycle.

What power does it need, and can I get a spare adapter?

It runs on an external adapter rated at input AC 100-240V 50/60Hz and output DC 5V/1A. That adapter comes in the box. The plug is a 5.5 x 2.1 mm centre-positive barrel. The matching spare AC adapter is the KanexPro EXT-PSU3. The splitter can also run from a 5V USB-A port, using a USB-A to 5.5 x 2.1 mm centre-positive barrel cable. Maximum power consumption is 1W.

What is the SERVICE port for?

The Mini USB-B SERVICE port is only for firmware updates. Nothing needs to be connected to it during normal use.

What comes in the box?

One 10.2Gbps 1x4 HDMI splitter, one DC 5V/1A power adapter and one user manual. The housing is a black metal enclosure.

--- I fixed the two problems that got the first draft held: - **SERVICE port:** the article no longer says where the port is. The specification lists it but doesn't place it, and the manual puts the update control on the front and the HDMI input on the back. - **EDID switch:** the article describes only what STD and TV mode do. It doesn't say how many positions the switch has, what it's labelled, or that there is a newer version of the unit. **Left out on purpose:** - **Discontinuation:** nothing in the facts says whether the SP-HD1X44K is being discontinued or what replaces it, so the article doesn't answer that question. It only names the SP-HD20-1X44K for HDCP 2.2. - **Old manual figures:** the manual says 4K@30Hz, 2.97 Gbps, 5W and 25g. The specification table says otherwise, so I used the table. - **2W power figure:** the approved FAQ says the unit draws about 2W at full load, but the specification says 1W (Max), so I left the 2W out. That FAQ answer should be corrected. - **Manual's EDID table:** the manual lists 16 fixed EDID settings, which doesn't match the specification's STD/TV switch, so the article doesn't use it. **Check before publishing:** the barrel plug size (5.5 x 2.1 mm), the EXT-PSU3 spare adapter and the USB-A power option come only from the approved FAQ, not the specification table. If the claim check counts only the specification, it may hold the power answer.
