Installation Guide: Hardware Setup and Connections — Collaboration

Overview

This guide covers physical installation of KanexPro Collaboration products — Huddle Room switchers, Presentation switchers, and Video Wall controllers. Complete hardware installation before network or control configuration.

Huddle Room Switchers — COL-HUD Series

  1. Placement: Place on the conference table, mount under the table surface, or install in a nearby AV rack. Ensure adequate ventilation (at least 5cm clearance on all sides).
  2. Source connections: Connect HDMI cables from room PCs or wall plates to HDMI inputs. Place USB-C cable(s) on the table for laptop BYOD access.
  3. Display connection: Connect HDMI OUT to the room display. For COL-HUD-42 with dual displays, connect HDMI OUT 1 and HDMI OUT 2 to each display.
  4. USB peripherals: Connect webcam, speakerphone, or USB hub to the USB 3.2 host port.
  5. Network: Connect LAN Port 1 to the corporate network switch. Connect LAN Port 2 to a laptop Ethernet port if 802.1x passthrough is needed.
  6. Audio: Connect balanced XLR or TRS cables from the audio output to the room amplifier or ceiling speaker amplifier.
  7. Power: Connect the included power supply and power on the unit.

Presentation Switchers — SW-xPS Series

  1. Placement: Install in the AV rack (1U) or mount under the table. The unit can be positioned remotely from the displays thanks to the HDBaseT 70m output.
  2. Source connections: Connect HDMI cables from room PCs, wall plates, and legacy devices. Connect USB-C cable for BYOD laptop access (up to 60W PD charging provided).
  3. Display connections:
    • For short runs (under 5m): connect HDMI OUT directly to the display.
    • For long runs (up to 70m): connect the HDBaseT output to a CAT6a cable run to an HDBaseT receiver, then HDMI from the receiver to the display.
    • SW-4X2PS-70M: connect HDMI OUT to secondary display and HDBaseT to primary display, or vice versa.
  4. USB: Connect a USB hub with shared room peripherals (webcam, speakerphone) to the USB 3.2 KVM host port.
  5. Audio: Connect balanced audio output to room amplifier or DSP. For Dante: connect the Dante port to the managed network switch.
  6. Network: Connect both LAN ports to the corporate network switch for 802.1x and device management.
  7. Control: Connect RS-232 DB9 cable from the control system processor to the RS-232 port if using a control system.

Video Wall Controllers

  1. Source connection: Connect HDMI source (media player, PC, Blu-ray) to the HDMI IN port. For VW-HDUSBC1X4: alternatively connect a USB-C laptop source.
  2. Display connections: Connect HDMI OUT 1 through 4 to the corresponding displays. Label each cable with the output number during installation.
  3. Display mounting: Mount displays in the intended layout before connecting cables. Align bezel edges for accurate bezel correction measurement.
  4. Control: For RS-232: connect DB9 cable from control system. For IR: place the IR receiver in line-of-sight of the room remote location.
  5. Power: Connect the included power supply. Power on the controller before the displays to ensure proper EDID negotiation.

Cable Notes

  • HDMI: Use HDMI 2.0 cables for 4K60. Limit passive cables to 5m. Use active HDMI cables or extenders for longer runs.
  • USB-C: Must be Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4 rated for video. Standard charging cables do not carry video.
  • HDBaseT: CAT6a required for 4K60 at 70m. Terminate with RJ45 connectors using T568B standard.
  • Balanced audio: XLR or TRS, standard pro audio cable.
