4×4 HDMI Matrix Switcher with Independent 4K Downscaling & HDR Support
Discontinued
KanexPro no longer makes the SW-HDMX44DS. The support information below still applies to units in service.
Support notes
- Replacement power adapter for the SW-HDMX44DS: the KanexPro EXT-PSU7 (DC 12V, with a locking connector and a 10 ft cable). The SW-HDMX44DS needs DC 12V, 2A. The EXT-PSU7 is rated for more current than the SW-HDMX44DS needs; at the same voltage that is compatible, because the SW-HDMX44DS draws only t
KanexPro SW-HDMX44DS 4×4 HDMI 2.0 matrix switcher with independent per-output 4K?1080p downscaling. HDR10, Dolby Vision, HDCP 2.2, RS-232/IR control…
Most 4×4 HDMI matrix installations require separate scalers when mixing 4K and 1080p displays — adding cost and configuration overhead to every output. The KanexPro SW-HDMX44DS eliminates that with per-output independent 4K?1080p downscaling built into every channel, letting integrators route any of four 18Gbps HDMI sources to any of four displays — 4K and 1080p simultaneously — without additional hardware. Supporting resolutions up to 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 with HDR10 and Dolby Vision pass-through, the SW-HDMX44DS handles today's most demanding source formats across all four outputs. Smart EDID management with 13 factory presets, user-defined modes, and copy-from-output capability resolves handshake issues in mixed environments. Control is via front panel buttons, IR remote, or RS-232 — making it well-suited for corporate AV rooms, classrooms, and hospitality environments.
Questions
- What is included in the box?
- The package includes the SW-HDMX44DS matrix switcher, 4 round plastic feet, an RS-232 cable (3-pin to DB9), an IR receiver, an IR remote, a 12VDC/2A power adapter, and a user manual.
- What is the maximum resolution and HDMI/HDCP compliance of the SW-HDMX44DS?
- The SW-HDMX44DS is HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliant, supporting resolutions up to 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 at 18Gbps video bandwidth, including HDR10, Dolby Vision, and 1080p 3D.
- What audio formats pass through the HDMI outputs?
- HDMI audio pass-through supports PCM, Dolby Digital, and DTS. The unit does not provide separate analog or coaxial audio de-embedding outputs; audio stays embedded in the HDMI signal.
- What control methods does the SW-HDMX44DS support?
- It can be controlled from the front panel buttons, the included IR remote, or RS-232 over a 3-pin terminal block at 9600 baud.
- How do I save and recall a routing configuration over RS-232?
- Send the RS-232 command Save[y] (y = 0-9) to store the current input/output routing to one of 10 preset memories, and Recall[y] to restore that routing.
- What are the physical dimensions and weight for rack or shelf placement?
- The unit measures 9.61 in (W) x 1.00 in (D) x 3.94 in (H) (244mm x 25.5mm x 100mm) and weighs 1.41 lbs (640g). It ships with round plastic feet rather than rack ears, for desktop or shelf mounting.
- An output shows no video. What should I check?
- Enable the 4K-to-1080p downscaler for any output connected to a 1080p display, verify the EDID preset matches the connected display, and confirm Premium High Speed HDMI cables are in use.
- RS-232 control is not responding. What should I check?
- Confirm the serial settings are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, that commands are terminated with a carriage return, and that the 3-pin terminal block wiring to the DB9 cable is correct.
- What deployment scenarios suit the SW-HDMX44DS?
- It fits compact professional installations needing 4x4 HDMI routing with per-output downscaling, such as huddle rooms or classrooms mixing a 4K display with legacy 1080p displays from the same set of sources.
- Why does the per-output downscaler matter for integrators?
- It lets an integrator route a single 4K source to a mixed fleet of 4K and 1080p displays simultaneously without adding external scalers, simplifying rooms with legacy displays.
